Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.24% -

Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the , and sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the lost 0.24%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the were Aritzia Inc (TSX:), which rose 19.96% or 9.88 points to trade at 59.39 at the close. Corus Entertainment Inc (TSX:) added 5.63% or 0.28 points to end at 5.25 and Sleep Country Canada Holdings Inc (TSX:) was up 4.52% or 1.72 points to 39.77 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX:), which lost 9.26% or 0.930 points to trade at 9.110 in late trade. Shopify Inc (TSX:) declined 8.26% or 120.75 points to end at 1341.10 and Birchcliff Energy Ltd . (TSX:) shed 6.84% or 0.500 points to 6.810.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 536 to 502 and 108 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.79% to 16.49.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.33% or 5.95 to $1821.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.27% or 1.05 to hit $81.59 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.86% or 0.73 to trade at $83.94 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.05% to 0.7997, while CAD/EUR fell 0.04% to 0.6981.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.08% at 94.825.
