Blackridge Research’s Latest Ukraine Solar Power Market Study
Ukraine is one of the largest countries in Europe in terms of territory and population. The country has significant strategic advantages due to the presence of natural resources, geographical location, and quality of human capital.
The country has significant solar irradiance, especially in the south, where annual solar irradiation can exceed 1500 kWh per square meter. Further, the Ukrainian government has a target to increase renewable energy from about ~5% of the energy mix to 25% by 2035.
Ukraine Solar Irradiance Solar Irradiation Data
Due to supportive government policies and initiatives, there was an investment boom in the renewables sector that spurred the rapid growth of solar power in the country, leading to a cumulative solar PV installed capacity of more than 7.3 GW in 2020.
A rush to secure the Green Tariff, which is replaced by an auction-based regime from 2020, has fuelled much of the renewable’s growth (in 2019) and pipeline, especially in wind and solar. The country witnessed a record level of solar capacity addition of – 3933 MW in 2019. However, in the coming years, the installation pace is expected to slow down due to the changes in government policies and regulations.
Ukraine Solar Power Installed Capacity Data
Particularly, the Green Tariff, which went into effect in 2008, kicked off Ukraine’s renewable energy market by guaranteeing Euro denominated rates per kWh until the end of 2029. However, in mid-2020, the government of Ukraine introduced changes, mainly resulting in the green tariff reduction and introduction auction regime for renewable installations.
From the last decade, PV module prices are rapidly declining owing to the cost reductions witnessed due to improved technology, high competition, economies of scale, supply chain competitiveness, and the growing experience of project developers. However, in the 2020s the PV module costs will continue to decline, albeit at a much slower rate.
Some of the key players in the market include – DTEK Renewables B.V, UDP Renewables, Activ Solar GmbH, Scatec Solar ASA, KNESS Group, among others.
Blackridge Research’s Ukraine Solar Power Market Outlook report provides a comprehensive analysis of the historical development, the current state of solar power installation scenario, and its outlook. Most of the insights in the report are derived from our proprietary databases, and offerings – Solar Intelligence Hub and Global Project Tracker Service. The insights include but are not limited to the market data, installation data and capacity additions data and forecast, policies and regulations, project data (upcoming solar power projects, under-construction projects, and operating/commissioned solar power plants), company profiles, and competitive landscape analysis.
The report covers market dynamics, growth potential of the photovoltaic (PV) and concentrated solar power (CSP) markets, economic trends, and investment & financing scenario in Ukraine. Further, the report looks at the current state and assesses the potential of residential, non-residential, and utility-scale solar PV deployment.
Special attention is given to depicting the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and changes in the government policies and regulatory changes (especially Green Auctions).
